Its been awhile since i did the BC 4* Sea Training in Koh Chang with my paddling buddies, Madi and Nate, but after 4 years, on June 2018, we all finally passed the assessment. *hip hip hooray!* The assessment was actually the easy part. ...Organising it, was an adventure itself! Since the training in 2014, we've been putting the assessment on hold a number of times, plus we were in a region where the BC 4 star sea assessment was not widely organised. So in 2018, we thought, "hey, why not organise one ourselves, before our training expires for good!" .......Read more |
So off we went organising it. The problem was, Nate was in Singapore, Madi was in Johor, I was in Tanzania and the assessor, Dave, was in Wales. Luckily whatsapp, emails and google drive exists. Next We had to find a way to bring down the costs (especially the assessors flights), so we thought we should invite more people to do the course....ses! In the end, there was a 3 star sea, 4 star sea training, 4 star sea assessment, Coastal Navigation course and a 3 star whitewater course, held at 2 different locations, Sibu island and Gopeng. |
And of course, there was the issue of participants, some pulling out, some unsure, accommodation issues, transportation issues, payment issues, a second assessor issue, and all that jazz. In the end, we had a total of 23 pax, 5 different courses at 2 different locations, and a community of passionate and enthusiastic paddlers, with BC standards ...and are hungry for more! Thank you @kulark , @barefoot_frye and @acwaterra for making it happen!
